US Patent:
6898484, May 24, 2005
Filed:
May 1, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/138064
Inventors:
Dorothy Lemelson - Incline Village NV, US
Robert D. Pedersen - Dallas TX, US
Tracy D. Blake - Scottsdale AZ, US
International Classification:
G06F019/00
US Classification:
700245, 700253, 700257, 700262, 700264, 700302, 3185681, 701 23, 901 1, 901 8
Abstract:
Global positioning system inputs are used in a manufacturing process where location of a work piece relative to a robotic manipulator is input into a control system. The manipulator is located and tracked by using “GPS” signals, as is an associated work piece. Radio signal based position indicators associated with work pieces transmit work piece location and status. In some embodiments manipulator locations are sensed by position indicators associated with manipulators and signals relating to the position of the manipulators are transmitted to the control system. The control system controls the manipulator and may also control material handling equipment for the transport of work pieces.

Dorothy Lemelson - Incline Village NV, US
Robert D. Pedersen - Dallas TX, US
International Classification:
G08B001/16
G06F017/10

Abstract:
A system and method assists the driver of a motor vehicle in preventing accidents or minimizing the effects of same. In one form, a television camera or other ranging device is mounted on a vehicle and scans the roadway ahead of the vehicle as the vehicle travels. Continuously generated video picture signals output by the camera are electronically processed and analyzed by a fuzzy-logic-based image analyzing computer mounted in the controlled vehicle, which generates control signals and applies them to control the operation of the accelerator, brake, and steering system of the vehicle in a coordinated way to attempt to avoid or lessen the effects of a collision. In a particular form, the decision computer may select the evasive action taken from a number of choices, depending on whether and where the detection device senses other vehicles and obstacles. Warning signals may also be generated.

Inventors:
Jerome Lemelson - Incline Village NV, US
Robert Pedersen - Dallas TX, US
Steven Pedersen - Dallas TX, US
Dorothy Lemelson - Incline Village NV, US
International Classification:
G01S013/78

H04B007/185
US Classification:
342/045000, 342/357060, 342/357170
Abstract:
A friend or foe detection system and method is disclosed. Friend or foe warning unit has a geographic locating system, a communication system for communicating with each of the warning units, and a military force detection system for detecting military forces in a combat area and has a signal routing and control circuitry for controlling operations. A number of components, devices, or sub-systems, such as a transmitter/receiver radio , an antenna , a microphone , a speaker , a battery , a display , a microprocessor , a memory , a camera , a radar/lidar input , on/off switch , a GPS location system that includes a GPS processor , a GPS receiver , a GPS antenna , are coupled to the circuitry . Display provides a display to the user of the unit and shows the location of friendly forces as well as unfriendly or unidentified forces in the area. Display displays text messages for the user of the warning unit . The microprocessor together with memory provide microprocessor control of the operations of the warning unit . The geographic locating system includes GPS processor , GPS receiver , and GPS antenna , and it is used to determine the exact location of the warning unit . The unit is able to broadcast and receive military force information, such as location and status (i.e. friendly, unfriendly, unidentified statuses). An expert system military action advisory system and method for advising military troops or personnel of firing decisions is also disclosed. A firing index is determined based on the membership variables, and the firing index is used to help make the firing decisions. The membership variables and the firing index are defined for an expert system or fuzzy logic system, and the expert system or fuzzy logic system helps determine making the firing decisions. The system and method operate by transmitting target and friendly force GPS coordinate information to determine danger. Alternatively, only target coordinates are transmitted with fire danger indices calculated on a distributed basis by individual warning units and transmitted to the source of fire without friendly force location coordinates to assist in making final firing decisions.

Inventors:
Jerome Lemelson - Incline Village NV, US
Dorothy Lemelson - Incline Village NV, US
Robert Pedersen - Dallas TX, US
Tracy Blake - Scottsdale AZ, US
International Classification:
G06F017/00
US Classification:

Abstract:
A fuzzy logic based emergency flight control system for an aircraft. The system has a thrust vectoring flight control system, an aerodynamic flight control system, and a fuzzy logic controller. The thrust vectoring flight control system provides thrust to the aircraft in an emergency situation alone or in combination with aerodynamic flight controls. The fuzzy logic controller executes fuzzy logic algorithms for assessing the emergency situation and controlling the aircraft thrust vectoring and aerodynamic flight control systems in the emergency situation. An adjustable nozzle is coupled to an exhaust thrust end of an engine of the aircraft and is angularly adjusted to direct thrust of the aircraft in a determined direction after fuzzy logic controller assessment of the emergency situation. Alternatively, an adjustable panel is mounted to a wing of the aircraft and positionable near an exhaust thrust end of an engine of the aircraft to direct thrust of the aircraft in a determined direction after the fuzzy logic controller assessment of the emergency situation. The fuzzy logic controller further includes a position, attitude, and heading determination system for determining position, attitude, and heading of the aircraft. The position, attitude, and heading determination system further includes global positioning system receivers mounted at extremities of the aircraft and a determination processor coupled to the global positioning receivers for calculating and assessing position, attitude, and heading of the aircraft.
