University of Georgia Athletic-Association - Assistant Tutorial Coordinator for Academics
Tagline:
I joined the Athletic Association in April 2007. I am the Assistant Tutorial Coordinator and Evening Supervisor at the academic center. I retired from teaching in June 2006. I taught English in high school and middle school. My last teaching position was at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Rabun Gap, Georgia. I received my degree from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, in English Education grades 6-12 and middle school grades 5-9. I am currently attending UGA to further my education while obtaining my Master’s degree. This has been a personal goal of mine. Teaching students to write was both a challenging and rewarding experience. When my 8th graders finally grasped the meaning of transitional sentences, I felt as if I had really accomplished something! Often some teachers overlook the importance of writing, except for English teachers. I was told more than once by teachers who taught other disciplines that it was my responsibility to teach writing not “their job “ to do so. Even today, the biggest challenge is inspiring our students to become writers as life-long learners. I am married to Ed Burts, who is a retired detective from Orlando and a graduate from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. I have two daughters, Krista and Kortni and six grandchildren: Stefani, Kevin, Kyle, Dylan, Ragan, and Jaxan. Krista, my older daughter, is in the picture with me; we were at the beach this summer.
