Cartridge Feeder For Soluble Fertilizer

View page
US Patent:
43334938, Jun 8, 1982
Filed:
Mar 28, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/134952
Inventors:
John L. Beiswenger - Libertyville IL
Howard R. Moon - Fort Atkinson WI
Dhananjay V. Chaphalkar - Lindenhurst IL
Frank A. Smiesko - McHenry IL
Assignee:
Acme Burgess, Inc. - Grayslake IL
International Classification:
B05B 714
US Classification:
137268
Abstract:
Plant fertilizer in granular form is supplied as replaceable cartridges and gradually dissolved within the cartridge shell by a side branch of the main stream of water which flows straight through the base of the feeder with minimum pressure loss. The cartridge container is a frustoconical disposable shell the base closure of which has a central orifice for metering inflowing water and peripheral fertilizer solution outlet holes. A port in the top of the main channel directs the side branch flow against the cartridge closure at the metering orifice to flow into the body of fertilizer and a second port receives solution from outlet apertures in the closure to rejoin the main stream at an enlarged portion of the main channel to provide suction. A dome screwed into sealed engagement on the top of the feeder encloses the cartridge. A safety valve is provided at the top of the dome to permit trapped air to escape through a central aperture.

Airless Electric Sprayer

View page
US Patent:
44429770, Apr 17, 1984
Filed:
Jan 25, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/342262
Inventors:
John L. Beiswenger - Grayslake IL
Frank A. Smiesko - McHenry IL
Dhananjay V. Chaphalkar - Lindenhurst IL
Assignee:
Acme Burgess, Inc. - Grayslake IL
International Classification:
B05B 904
US Classification:
239332
Abstract:
An improved airless electric sprayer is disclosed having superior balance, portability, receptacle interchangeability, cleanability and a non-tipping stand feature. The user's hand conveniently grasps a piston grip in close proximity to the nozzle for accurate spray control at a position generally above the combined center of mass of a motor housing and receptacle for balanced comfortable use. The invention includes a release and lock arrangement affording handy receptacle attachment and disengagement without need for unscrewing the receptacle from the body of the sprayer, which also prevents spillage. To prevent clogging, any unsprayed liquid is allowed to accumulate around a reduced piston section and drain therefrom back into the receptacle. The housing has an access panel to expose pump assembly for convenient cleaning.

Oscillating Water Sprinkler

View page
US Patent:
42202841, Sep 2, 1980
Filed:
Jan 29, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/007034
Inventors:
John L. Beiswenger - Libertyville IL
Frank A. Smiesko - McHenry IL
Dhananjay V. Chaphalkar - Lindenhurst IL
Assignee:
Burgess Vibrocrafters, Inc. - Grayslake IL
International Classification:
B05B 316
US Classification:
239242
Abstract:
A snap-action toggle valve reverses the direction of an oscillating sprinkler powered by a paddle-piston motor. Adjustable stops on the sprinkler tube trip the valve at the end of each sweep, alternately opening left and right motor chamber channels interconnected to a sprinkler supply channel feeding the sprinkler tube without interruption. A special vane on the sprinkler tube where it intercepts the sprinkler supply channel prevents vortex action. The edges of the paddle-piston are sealed to the motor chamber by a flanged slip-on wiper.

Hose-End Sprayer

View page
US Patent:
43699219, Jan 25, 1983
Filed:
Dec 12, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/215833
Inventors:
John L. Beiswenger - Salem WI
Howard R. Moon - Ft. Atkinson WI
Frank A. Smiesko - McHenry IL
Dhananjay Chaphalkar - Lindenhurst IL
Assignee:
Acme Burgess, Inc. - Grayslake IL
International Classification:
B05B 728
US Classification:
239317
Abstract:
The sprayer comprises two main functioning units; namely, a flow control system incorporated in the chemical concentrate jar top closure and a spray nozzle integral with the closure for dispensing dilute solutions of fertilizer, pesticides and the like as supplied by the flow control system. The control system comprises an ejector for drawing concentrate from the reservoir jar and a pair of coaxial, independently rotatable valve elements, one, acting with fixed structure, serving to turn the water supply off or direct the water into the chemical concentrate jar or through the unit to the spray nozzle, the other, operating in conjunction with the first valve element, controlling by means of flow resistance in a labyrinth, desirably in conjunction with an orifice metering disc, proportionate feed from the jar of chemical concentrate to the main water stream. Proportionate feed may be accomplished without the flow resistance control by appropriate dimensioning of the ejector. The ejector is itself novel in that it is made of plastic material by injection with a single mold having a single core forming the entire length of the ejector passageway.
