Transmission Fluid Pan

View page
US Patent:
20120186554, Jul 26, 2012
Filed:
Jan 9, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/346020
Inventors:
David J. Goerend - Saint Lucas IA, US
International Classification:
F16N 31/00
F01M 9/00
US Classification:
123196 R, 184106
Abstract:
A transmission or engine pan is provided for holding the lubricating fluid. A plug is removably installed in a drain hole in the bottom of the pan to allow the fluid to be drained. The floor of the pan slopes to the drain hole. The bottom wall of the pan may have a tapered thickness from the side walls to the drain hole, or may have a constant thickness. The bottom exterior of the pan is flat, or alternatively may include ribs which define a horizontal surface for receiving a jack.

Torque Converter

US Patent:
20120017579, Jan 26, 2012
Filed:
Jul 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/187894
Inventors:
David J. Goerend - Saint Lucas IA, US
International Classification:
F16D 33/00
US Classification:
60361
Abstract:
An improved torque converter impeller has a hemispherical wall with a plurality of vanes attached thereto. The improvement comprises a deflector adjacent the ends of the vanes to deflect fluid during rotation of the impeller such that the fluid is directed to the turbine vanes of the torque converter without overshooting the turbine. The deflector is preferably mounted to the inside surface of the impeller wall and extends 360.

Adjustable Stator For Torque Converter

View page
US Patent:
20210003214, Jan 7, 2021
Filed:
Sep 24, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/948581
Inventors:
David J. Goerend - Saint Lucas IA, US
International Classification:
F16H 61/50
F16H 41/02
F16H 41/30
F16H 41/24
Abstract:
A torque converter is provided with a stator having adjustable fluid flow holes for changing the K-factor of the torque converter, as needed. The stator includes a base plate with fluid flow openings and an adjustable plate with fluid flow openings. The plates matingly engage, such that the fluid openings are adjacent one another. The degree of overlap of the openings can be varied from fully aligned to substantially misaligned by rotating the adjustable plate relative to the base plate, and thereby controlling the fluid flow through the openings. In alternative embodiments the stator holes can be automatically opened and closed in response to changes in fluid pressure in the torque converter, via reed values or spring biased balls.

Torque Converter With Improved Lock-Up Clutch

View page
US Patent:
20160033022, Feb 4, 2016
Filed:
Jul 29, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/812000
Inventors:
DAVID J. GOEREND - SAINT LUCAS IA, US
International Classification:
F16H 45/02
Abstract:
An improved torque converter and lock-up clutch assembly includes a sleeve fixed on the sidewall of the lock-up clutch to extend the depth of the clutch, and thereby allow additional clutch packs to be mounted in the cover. The additional clutch packs increase the torque capacity of the assembly. The sleeve includes an annular groove with a snap ring to retain the clutch packs and backing plate in the lock-up clutch cover.

Transmission Plate

View page
US Patent:
20140366669, Dec 18, 2014
Filed:
Jun 13, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/303811
Inventors:
David J. Goerend - Saint Lucas IA, US
International Classification:
F16H 61/02
US Classification:
7447311
Abstract:
A transmission plate is provided for use on both a diesel transmission casting and a gasoline transmission casting. The plate includes a continuous perimeter edge without a perimeter oil flow notch to inhibit firm shifting of a torque converter connected to the transmission. The plate also has one or more pockets formed therein to reside above a wall of the transmission casting and thereby permit fluid flow over the wall without the need to drill a hole through the wall of the casting. The plate further includes a solid portion free from an oil flow hole so as to preclude fluid flow from a fluid cavity in the transmission casting and thereby preventing downshifting from second gear to first gear by the transmission.

Torque Converter Stator

US Patent:
20050247054, Nov 10, 2005
Filed:
May 5, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/839086
Inventors:
David Goerend - St. Lucas IA, US
International Classification:
F16D033/00
US Classification:
060361000
Abstract:
A torque converter stator for improved fluid coupling and acceleration is provided. The stator includes a plurality of circumferential long and short blades for increasing torque to an automatic transmission by employing reaction force produced when a flow transmission oil within the torque converter impinges an exterior surface of the blades. The stator utilizes the plurality of circumferential short blades for increasing torque during times a vehicle starting or accelerating and for permitting an obstructed fluid coupling in the turbine and impeller are a coupling point.
