Counting Of Gvrp Protocol Data Units Within A Network Bridge

View page
US Patent:
7594028, Sep 22, 2009
Filed:
Apr 28, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/561361
Inventors:
Wynona Persephone Jacobs - Cary NC, US
Steven Edward Ledford - Holly Springs NC, US
Alejandro Emilio Vasquez - Raleigh NC, US
Colin Michael Winegarden - Holly Springs NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709242, 709202, 709238, 709250, 370401, 370402, 370408
Abstract:
Counters are implemented within an 802. 1Q VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) bridge model to assist a network administrator in diagnosing network problems associated with the dynamic registration of VLANs. Such counters are able to count the number of dynamic VLANs propagated through a bridging device, and for monitoring the maximum number of VLANs ever simultaneously configured on a bridge device.

Client-Based Guest Vlan

View page
US Patent:
20100146599, Jun 10, 2010
Filed:
Dec 10, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/332137
Inventors:
Kishore Padmanabha - Morrisville NC, US
Colin Winegarden - Holly Springs NC, US
Assignee:
Broadcom Corporation - Irvine CA
International Classification:
H04L 9/32
US Classification:
726 5
Abstract:
A network device connected to a network includes a physical port and multiple logical ports configured to provide guest access or authenticated access to the network via the physical port, to a supplicant device. An authorization engine determines whether the supplicant device is authorized to access the network. An authentication engine determines whether the supplicant device is compatible with an authentication protocol associated with the network based on a receipt or a non-receipt of a response from the supplicant device to one or more authentication requests. A guest table stores the source address of the supplicant device if the supplicant device is authorized to access the network and is incompatible with the authentication protocol, wherein the logical ports are configured to provide the guest access to the supplicant device corresponding to the source address stored in the guest table.

System And Method For Priority Based Flow Control Between Nodes

View page
US Patent:
20130003550, Jan 3, 2013
Filed:
Aug 26, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/219210
Inventors:
Colin Winegarden - Cary NC, US
Daniel Kelley - San Jose CA, US
Biju Babu - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Broadcom Corporation - Irvine CA
International Classification:
H04L 12/26
US Classification:
370235
Abstract:
A system and method for priority-based flow control between nodes. In one example, pause deadlocks in a physical loop can be averted by priority-based selection of egress ports to which a packet is forwarded. In one embodiment, if the packet priority matches a configured lossless priority, then the set of internal egress ports is masked such that only the internal ports belonging to the spanning tree remain in the set of internal egress ports. If the packet priority does not match a configured lossless priority, then the set of internal egress ports is masked such that only the internal ports belonging to the shortest path first tree remain in the set of internal egress ports.

Statistics For Vlan Bridging Devices

US Patent:
6658012, Dec 2, 2003
Filed:
Apr 27, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/560028
Inventors:
Wynona Persephone Jacobs - Cary NC
Colin Michael Winegarden - Holly Springs NC
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H01L 1228
US Classification:
370401, 370402, 370404
Abstract:
Counters are implemented within a bridge device so that adequate forwarding and transmission statistics can be monitored. The counting of frame discards as a result of ingress and egress rules implemented within the bridge are utilized within the IEEE 802. IQ VLAN bridge model to calculate the number of frames forwarded and the number of frames transmitted.
