H04W 74/08
H04W 72/04
US Classification:
370329
Abstract:
Managing radio resources across dual networks includes a wireless mobile device connecting to a first wireless network using a first radio access technology. The wireless device may notify the first network of a capability to be temporarily non-responsive to the first network while maintaining a signaling connection to the first network. The wireless device may communicate with a second network. The wireless device may return to communicating with the first network subsequent to communicating with the second network, and in response to communicating with the second network for less than a predetermined amount of time, the wireless device may send a scheduling request to the first network. In response to receiving a grant acknowledgement from the first network, the wireless device may send a buffer status report that includes a value such as zero to indicate that the wireless device has returned to and can communicate with the first network.

Opportunistic Carrier Aggregation Using Short Range Extension Carriers

View page
US Patent:
20140010086, Jan 9, 2014
Filed:
Dec 16, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/991712
Inventors:
Kamran Etemad - Potomac MD, US
Christian Mucke - Cupertino CA, US
International Classification:
H04W 28/08
US Classification:
370235
Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing opportunistic carrier aggregation to short range or low power extension carriers are generally disclosed herein. One embodiment includes data traffic offload techniques to offload data communicated in a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) from a primary cell to a secondary cell. For example, the primary cell may be provided by a LTE/LTE-A base station operating in licensed spectrum, and the secondary cell may be provided by a low-power extension carrier operating in unlicensed spectrum using a LTE/LTE-A standard. The low-power extension carrier may be activated as needed to off-load data transfers from the primary cell, in download-only, upload-only, and time-division LTE (TD-LTE) modes. Configurations involving multimode base stations, multimode user equipment (UE), relay extension carriers, and remote radio equipment are also described herein, in conjunction with deployment of opportunistic carrier aggregation using extension carriers.

Providing Time Zone Information To Wireless Communication Devices

View page
US Patent:
20140031065, Jan 30, 2014
Filed:
Jul 26, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/952516
Inventors:
Ronald K. Huang - San Jose CA, US
Christian W. Mucke - Sunnyvale CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H04W 4/02
US Classification:

Abstract:
A method for determining current local time for a wireless communication device is provided. The method can include a wireless communication device receiving a message sent by a network entity. The message can include location information indicative of a location associated with a time zone in which a serving cell for the wireless communication device is located. The method can further include the wireless communication device extracting the location information from the message; using the location information to determine the time zone; and determining a current local time based on the time zone.

Apparatus And Methods For Synchronization Recovery In A Hybrid Network

View page
US Patent:
20130260758, Oct 3, 2013
Filed:
Sep 28, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/631640
Inventors:
Wen Zhao - Cupertino CA, US
Xiaowen Wang - Cupertino CA, US
Vinay Majjigi - Sunnyvale CA, US
Paul Flynn - Cupertino CA, US
Kee-Bong Song - Cupertino CA, US
Tarik Tabet - Los Gatos CA, US
Youngjae Kim - Cupertino CA, US
Syed Aon Mujtaba - Santa Clara CA, US
Christian Mucke - Cupertino CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H04W 36/14
US Classification:
455436
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for synchronizing operational state during hybrid network operation. In one embodiment, the various access technologies that makeup the hybrid network not fully synchronized. Thus, a wireless device operating in a mixed mode must be capable of managing synchronization across multiple access technologies. The wireless device is configured to estimate an expected “tune-away” period when disengaging with a one access technology to address events (for example, link maintenance, calls, data, and the like) or perform monitoring on a second access technology. The estimate is then used by the device to adjust its operational parameters on the technology from which it is tuning away. This ensures smooth switching away from and back to the various network technologies.

Network Slicing Enhancements

US Patent:
20220353780, Nov 3, 2022
Filed:
Nov 16, 2020
Appl. No.:
17/438538
Inventors:
- Cupertino CA, US
Ahmed M. Soliman - Munich, DE
Christian W. Mucke - Cupertino CA, US
Huarui Liang - Beijing, CN
Oleg M. Moskalenko - Ben Lomond CA, US
Rafael L. Rivera-Barreto - Santa Clara CA, US
Teck Yang Lee - Cupertino CA, US
International Classification:
H04W 40/02
H04W 40/24
H04L 45/302
Abstract:
Apparatuses, systems, and methods for enhancement of network slicing for a UE. A UE may receive, from an AMF of a network, application related information associated with network slice data routing for data associated with an application. The information may be provided to the network by network slice customers. The UE may, in response to application initiation, determine traffic routing for data associated with the application. Traffic routing may be based on the application related information and a UE configuration associated with user privacy (e.g., user privacy setting) associated with the application. When the user UE configuration is enabled, the data may be routed via a default network slice and when the UE configuration is disabled, the data may be routed via a network slice indicated by the application related information. The UE configuration may be indicated by the application via a Boolean flag and/or via a user interface setting.

Temporary Handling Of Wireless Communication Device Capabilities

View page
US Patent:
20220322073, Oct 6, 2022
Filed:
Jun 8, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/835705
Inventors:
- Cupertino CA, US
Christian W. Mucke - Cupertino CA, US
Haijing Hu - Beijing, CN
Dawei Zhang - Saratoga CA, US
Matthias Sauer - Campbell CA, US
Johnson O. Sebeni - Fremont CA, US
International Classification:
H04W 8/22
H04W 8/00
Abstract:
A wireless communication device (UE) may provide information pertaining to one or more operating capabilities of the UE to LTE and 5G-NR networks. The UE may transmit information to an LTE base station directly, and to a 5G-NR base station directly, or indirectly via the LTE base station. The information may include preferred values corresponding to any number of different operating parameters associated with wireless communications or wireless communication capabilities of the UE in both LTE and 5G-NR networks, to inform and/or request the LTE and 5G-NR networks to make provisions based on the transmitted information for the wireless communications of the UE on those networks. The UE may thereby provide assistance information to LTE and 5G-NR networks in a multi-radio-access-technology dual-connectivity setting to request the respective networks to adjust certain operating capabilities of the UE in order to alleviate one or more operating issues that may be affecting the UE.
