Abstract:
A modulated signal ( ) is sinusoidal wave signal wherein each half wave cycle carries a digital data value associated with an amount of its amplitude. A positive half wave cycle with an amplitude of M encodes a binary level zero digital data value while a positive half wave cycle with an amplitude of M+x encodes a binary level one digital data value. Similarly, a negative half wave cycle with an amplitude of -M encodes a binary level zero digital data value while a negative half wave cycle with an amplitude of -M-x encodes a binary level one digital data value. The positive and negative half wave cycles may transport dual portions of a channel at the same frequency as a modulated signal ( ) for either a dual transmission capability or as a full duplex bidirectional transmit/receive channel. Each half wave cycle may also be modulated to carry a plurality of digital data values beyond binary level zero and one through selection of four or more amplitude levels to generate a modulated signal ( ). A modulated signal ( ) may also provide digital data value representations in each quarter wave of the sinusoidal wave signal to further increase bandwidth capability.

Abstract:
A system and method of implementing a high performance digital bus interface. Digital signals present on a plurality of digital bus signal lines are amplitude encoded into a single signal and coupled to a transmission medium. The encoded signal is received and decoded by a complimentary decoder. The amplitude levels are discriminated and converted into digital symbols, each having a plurality of bits, which are coupled to a second digital bus. Digital signals are amplitude encoded at levels related by powers of two so that no encoding ambiguity is created. In wide data bus implementations, a plurality of encoder/decoders can be used. Bi-directional bus implementations are also taught.

Abstract:
A land mobile radio communication system has a plurality of cell sites, each of which typically has a plurality of repeaters. The over-the-air radio communications between the cell site repeaters and the mobile radios in the system include both a voice component and a data component. The data component is carried as low-frequency subaudible information. Communication channels are provided between the radio users at each site as well as between users at different sites and between mobile radio users and the public telephone network. Within a cell site, the transmitted and received communications are digitized and passed through serial buses in a time multiplex fashion. The digitized voice is transferred between time slots to provide the required switching function. The system includes operational software to provide direct inward dial telephone number recognition, automatic voice prompts for a user entering a new cell, call priority override, fraud control for radio fleets and a dynamic control channel.
