Abstract:
A low molecular weight hair spray resin containing a vinyl monomer having a ##STR1## electron withdrawing group and consisting essentially of alternating units of vinyl ester and an alkyl half ester maleate derived from an alternating vinyl ester/maleic anhydride copolymer. The resins of this invention are defined by the structure: ##STR2## wherein R and R. sub. 1 are each independently alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and n has a value between about 40 and 250, preferably 60 to 220.

Abstract:
A lithographic printing plate precursor and process for its utilization have been discovered through which negative and positive original images can be printably reproduced on the plate precursor in substantially fewer development steps. The precursor plate is exposed sequentially to either the negative or positive original with the resultant image subsequently developable in a single process or step. The process is achieved by using a precursor plate having two coatings of significantly different photographic sensitivity to light, i. e. , speed as characterized by "camera speed" or "contact speed" and imagewise exposing the originals in sequence to alternative speeds. The contact speed coating may be negative-working or positive working while the camera speed coating is negative-working. The camera speed coating is developed followed by exposure of the contact speed coating. Images produced at camera speed are removed and non-image bearing portions of the contact speed coating are removed.

Abstract:
Novel dot enhancing compositions are disclosed for use in high contrast negative-working image-forming systems. The compositions include compounds of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R. sub. 1 is an aromatic group, A is a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic nucleus, and the two carboxyl groups specifically depicted in general formula (I) are each bound to a different carbon atom of said aromatic nucleus. The dot enhancing compositions may be incorporated into a silver halide photographic emulsion or into another hydrophilic colloid layer of a photographic material, or into a developing solution or, alternatively, into both. The dot enhancers of the invention improve density and contrast of images formed, as well as providing a harder, smoother, better formed dot for use in letter press and offset lithography.
