Correlation And Consolidation Of Link Events To Facilitate Updating Of Status Of Source-Destination Routes In A Multi-Path Network

View page
US Patent:
20070053283, Mar 8, 2007
Filed:
Sep 6, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/220163
Inventors:
Bret Bidwell - Hopewell Junction NY, US
Aruna Ramanan - Poughkeepsie NY, US
Nicholas Rash - Poughkeepsie NY, US
Karen Rash - Poughkeepsie NY, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H04L 12/56
H04J 1/16
H04J 3/14
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370216000, 370242000, 370400000
Abstract:
In a communications network having a plurality of interconnected nodes adapted to communicate with each other by transmitting packets over links, with more than one path available between source-destination node pairs, a network interface is associated with each node. Each network interface has a plurality of route tables for defining a plurality of routes for transferring packets from the associated node as source node to a destination node. Each network interface further includes a path status table of path status indicators, e.g., bits, for indicating whether each route in the route table is usable or unusable as being associated with a fault. A network manager monitors the network to identify link events, and provides path status indicators to the respective network interfaces. The network manager determines the path status indicator updates with reference to a link level of each link event, and consolidates multiple substantially simultaneous link events.

Concurrent Replacement Of Distributed Conversion And Control Assembly

View page
US Patent:
20200285484, Sep 10, 2020
Filed:
Feb 28, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/804147
Inventors:
- Armonk NY, US
Anthony Joseph Cozzolino - New Paltz NY, US
Gerald Fahr - Wappingers Falls NY, US
Bret G. Bidwell - Hopewell Junction NY, US
Ellick Chi-lick Law - Woodstock NY, US
Patrick Caffrey - Saugerties NY, US
William Wajda - Staatsburg NY, US
International Classification:
G06F 9/4401
G06F 1/28
G06F 1/14
Abstract:
A method includes identifying a first distributed conversion and control assembly (DCCA) in a central electronics complex (CEC) of a computer system, the CEC containing the first DCCA and a second DCCA, each of the first DCCA and the second DCCA having a flexible service processor (FSP); determining that the computer system satisfies preconditions for concurrent replacement of the first DCCA; disabling control software for a thermal and power management device (TPMD) of the first DCCA; fencing off the first DCCA; depowering the first DCCA; receiving a new media access control (MAC) address of a replacement DCCA; reconfiguring an operating system of the CEC to recognize the new MAC address of the replacement DCCA; powering on the replacement DCCA; removing the fencing off of the first DCCA; and resetting an FSP of the replacement DCCA.

Set Up Of Direct Mapped Routers Located Across Independently Managed Compute And Storage Networks

View page
US Patent:
20170054629, Feb 23, 2017
Filed:
Nov 3, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/342146
Inventors:
- Armonk NY, US
Bret G. Bidwell - Hopewell Junction NY, US
John Dorfner - Rhinebeck NY, US
Aruna V. Ramanan - Poughkeepsie NY, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/707
H04L 12/703
H04L 12/24
Abstract:
Embodiments relate to setting up direct mapped routers located across independently managed compute and storage networks for enabling multiple modes of communication over the cross-coupled links between the networks. An aspect includes identifying a characteristic of a local entity based on a unique location identifier assigned to the local entity and learning a characteristic of a remote entity based on a location identifier received over a cross-coupled link between the local entity and the remote entity. A port on a local entity router is then correlated with the received location identifier of the remote entity. A route is then built in the direct mapped router table at a location pointed to by the location identifier of the remote entity. An optimistic failover route is established from a storage entity to a compute entity when a cross-coupled link between the storage entity and the compute entity is broken.
