Method And Apparatus For Encoding And Decoding Pause Information

View page
US Patent:
6885987, Apr 26, 2005
Filed:
Feb 9, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/780916
Inventors:
Dale R. Buchholz - Palatine IL, US
Bashar Jano - Algonquin IL, US
Ira Gerson - Schaumburg IL, US
Assignee:
fastmobile, Inc. - Rolling Meadows IL
International Classification:
G10L011/06
H04J003/06
US Classification:
704228, 704215, 370476, 370435
Abstract:
At an audio source, pause information is added to audio data, the combination of which is subsequently packetized. The resulting packets are transmitted to an audio destination via a network in which different packets may be subjected to varying levels of delay. At the audio destination, the pause information may be used to insert pauses at appropriate times to accommodate the occurrence of delays in packet delivery. In one embodiment, pauses are inserted based on a hierarchy of pause types. During pauses, audio filler information may be injected. In this manner, the effects of variable network delays upon reconstructed audio may be mitigated.

Voice And Text Group Chat Display Management Techniques For Wireless Mobile Terminals

View page
US Patent:
8150922, Apr 3, 2012
Filed:
Jul 17, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/197022
Inventors:
Chris Michael Griffin - Naperville IL, US
Bashar Jano - Algonquin IL, US
Jin Woo Lee - Vernon Hills IL, US
Mihaela Kamenova Mihaylova - Schaumburg IL, US
Christopher Robert Dale Wilson - Carpentersville IL, US
Assignee:
Research in Motion Limited - Waterloo, Ontario
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709206, 715758
Abstract:
A single content region in a chat history display is used to display entries representative of a plurality of messages corresponding to all chat histories for all of chat threads currently engaged in by a given mobile terminal. Additionally, a buddy list display supports management of chat buddies, a detail view display allows otherwise truncated messages to be displayed, and a text message editor display supports the composition of text messages. Each chat user may designate public display identifiers for purposes of identification to other chat users. Additionally, each user may designate private display identifiers for each of his/her buddies, which private display identifiers may be used to replace the public display identifiers for that user's buddies when displayed on the user's mobile terminal. In this manner, the use of speech and text based group chatting and similar services in wireless communication environments is more readily enabled.

Image Magnification Based On Display Flexing

View page
US Patent:
8462106, Jun 11, 2013
Filed:
Nov 9, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/942336
Inventors:
Alek Tziortzis - Palatine IL, US
Bashar Jano - Algonquin IL, US
Alexander Hirsch - Highland Park IL, US
Assignee:
Research In Motion Limited - Waterloo, Ontario
International Classification:
G09G 5/00
US Classification:
345156, 345698, 345174
Abstract:
Systems and methods control resizing a presentation of an image on a flexible display. A user flexes a flexible display in a particular manner to control magnification or size reduction of the image presented on the display. The amount of magnification or size reduction of the image presented on a flexible display increases along with the absolute magnitude of flexible display flexing. The flexible display can be double flexed within a defined time to indicate that another action is to be taken, such as fitting the presently displayed document to the width of the flexible display or fitting the entire document to the flexible display. The direction of flexing, such as flexing in a concave or a convex direction, is a flexing characteristic that causes other desired actions.

Multi-Bend Display Activation Adaptation

US Patent:
8587539, Nov 19, 2013
Filed:
Jan 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/011274
Inventors:
Alek Tziortzis - Rolling Meadows IL, US
Bashar Jano - Rolling Meadows IL, US
Assignee:
BlackBerry Limited - Waterloo Ontario
International Classification:
G09G 5/00
G09G 5/08
G06F 3/041
G06F 1/16
US Classification:
345173, 345 63, 345156, 36167905
Abstract:
Systems and methods determine likely unintended flexing of a flexible display and exclude the determined unintended flexings from user input processing. Unintended flexings include placing or removing the flexible display into or out of a compact storage configuration, folds that outside the user's visible area, folds that are near edges and boundaries, flexing with a specified degree of bending or orientation, folds that don't intersect with other folds, folds that are near known unintended folds, folds that have a motion or other variation with time, and folds that are not in proximity to a selectable user interface element. Unintended flexings are adaptively identified by determining that a bend that is not in proximity to a selectable user interface element reoccurs at times when icons at different locations are presented on the flexible display.
