International Classification:
G06F 1546
D21C 712
US Classification:
364165
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for controlling the delignification process by monitoring and minimizing variations in the Kappa Number and the digester residual chemical concentration. A parameter representative of the H factor for the delignification process and a measurement of the initial chemical concentration are utilized ot produce signals representative of the actual Kappa Number and the residual acid concentration in the digerter. The expected perturbations in Kappa Number and the residual chemical concentration are compared with target values for same to produce estimated errors due to mismatch which are compared with actual measured errors for these parameters to produce compensated control errors for same. The compensated control errors are utilized to modify the target values for the H factor and the initial chemical concentation by modifiying the chemical charge and the time versus temperature operating parameters of the digestings to regulate pulp Kappa number and spent cooking liquor residual chemical concentrations of the process.

Filed:
Dec 15, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/331060
Inventors:
Donald J. Dziubakowski - Seven Hills OH
Azmi Kaya - Akron OH
Marion A. Keyes - Chagrin Falls OH
Theodore N. Matsko - Chesterland OH
William H. Moss - Willoughby OH
Thomas J. Scheib - Chesterland OH
Assignee:
The Babcock & Wilcox Company - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
H02J 300
US Classification:
307 32
Abstract:
A load control for a system comprised of a plurality of energy converters wherein a System Control Signal proportional to system load is developed and utilized to simultaneously adjust the rate of energy conversion of each of the converters in parallel in accordance with changes in system load. The rate of energy conversion for each converter, while operating under stead-state conditions for a predetermined period of time, is readjusted until its actual incremental cost of production is equal to a desired incremental cost.

Enthalpy Measurement For Two Phase Substance

View page
US Patent:
45746265, Mar 11, 1986
Filed:
Mar 23, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/592499
Inventors:
Azmi Kaya - Akron OH
Marion A. Keyes - Chagrin Falls OH
Assignee:
The Babcock & Wilcox Company - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
G01K 1700
G01N 700
G01N 900
US Classification:
73112
Abstract:
An enthalpy measuring arrangement for measuring the heat content of a substance which may in the liquid phase, vapor phase or a mixed phase of liquid and vapor, comprises a first enthalpy calculating module for calculating the enthalpy of the substance when in a two-phase condition utilizing a plurality of discrete function blocks. The specific volumes of the overall mixture is calculated using a density transmitter which measures the density of the substance. Tables are utilized to obtain the specific volumes of the gas and vapor part of the substance on the basis of a measured temperature for the substance. These values are in turn used to obtain a quality value which is multiplied by a value representing the difference between the enthalpys of the vapor and liquid components of the substance to obtain the overall enthalpy of the mixture. Another module with a plurality of function blocks generates the enthalpy of the substance when it is superheated or entirely in the vapor phase. A selector module is connected to the mixed and vapor phase calculating modules to determine which of the modules should be utilized and to calculate the overall enthalpy of the substance regardless of its phase.

Filed:
Aug 9, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/065020
Inventors:
Azmi Kaya - Akron OH
Marion A. Keyes - Chagrin Falls OH
Michael P. Lukas - Eastlake OH
Assignee:
The Babcock & Wilcox Company - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
G01K 1706
US Classification:
364550
Abstract:
A system for the measurement and control of the rate of BTU input to a gas burner wherein a signal is generated corresponding to the square root of the product of the burner inlet pressure multiplied by the in-situ density olf the gas, which, multiplied by a signal of constant value, corresponds to the mass flow of gas to the burner. This signal is then multiplied by a second signal of constant value to generate a signal corresponding to the rate of BTU input to the burner and which is compared with a set point signal to regulate the mass flow of gas to the burner as required to maintain the rate of BTU input to the burner at set point.
