Method And System To Identify Conflicts In Scheduling Data Center Changes To Assets Utilizing Task Type Plugin With Conflict Detection Logic Corresponding To The Change Request

View page
US Patent:
8635618, Jan 21, 2014
Filed:
Nov 20, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/942988
Inventors:
Vijay K. Aggarwal - Austin TX, US
Adam R. Holley - Austin TX, US
Arnaud A. Mathieu - Austin TX, US
Chakkalamattam J. Paul - Austin TX, US
Edward Whitehead - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 9/46
G06F 7/00
G06F 17/00
US Classification:
718102, 718107, 707609
Abstract:
An information technology services management product is provided with a change management component that identifies conflicts based on a wide range of information. When a change on a configuration item is scheduled, the change management component identifies, for example, affected business applications, affected service level agreements, resource availability, change schedule, workflow, resource dependencies, and the like. The change management component warns the user if a conflict is found. The user does not have to consult multiple sources of information and make a manual determination concerning conflicts. The change management component may also suggest a best time to schedule a change request based on the information available. The change management component provides a constrained interface such that the user cannot schedule a change request that violates any of the above requirements. The change management component also applies these requirements when changing an already scheduled change request.

View page
US Patent:
20060253658, Nov 9, 2006
Filed:
May 4, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/121412
Inventors:

Joseph Wigglesworth - Thornhill, CA
Zhe Xu - North York, CA
Alice Yeung - Markham, CA
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 13/28
G06F 12/00
US Classification:
711149000, 711170000
Abstract:
There is provided a method, apparatus and program product for managing shared or reusable storage volumes in a data processing system. A storage allocation pool having a plurality of storage volumes to be shared or reused by a plurality of authorized machines is created. Access to the plurality of storage volumes in the storage allocation pool by a machine of the plurality of authorized machines is enabled during a storage provisioning period and is disabled following storage de-provisioning. By providing the storage volumes in a storage allocation pool, all storage volumes in the pool can be used by a plurality of machines, and data on the storage volumes will persist even if no machine is accessing the storage volumes.

Method And Apparatus For Solutions Deployment In A Heterogeneous Systems Management Environment

View page
US Patent:
20060253848, Nov 9, 2006
Filed:
May 5, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/122903
Inventors:
Arnaud Mathieu - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 9/44
US Classification:
717168000
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and computer usable code for deploying software in a data center and desktop computers. A set of software distribution applications within the data center or IT infrastructure are identified. In response to receiving a request to install software, installation parameters associated with the software to be installed are compared to characteristics for the set of software distribution applications. A software distribution application is selected from the set of software distribution applications based on comparing the installation parameters associated with the software to the characteristics for the set of software distribution applications. The selected software distribution application is used to install the software.

May 6, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/123304
Inventors:
Mircea Avram - Toronto, CA
Peter Kissa - Woodbridge, CA
Geyu Li - Scarborough, CA
Radu Mateescu - Toronto, CA
Arnaud Airy Mathieu - Austin TX, US
Andrei Oprea - Ajax, CA
C. Peteanu - North York, CA
John Sanchez - Pflugerville TX, US
Cristina Tecsa - Richmond Hill, CA
Teodor Tecsa - Richmond Hill, CA
Andrew Trossman - North York, CA
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 9/44
US Classification:
717172000
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and computer instructions are provided for enhancing software catalog manageability, providing abstract software configuration, and desired state management. A first mechanism is provided for enhancing software catalog manageability. The first mechanism includes a software model that separates metadata of software from actual binaries of the software. A second mechanism is provided for abstracting software configuration for automation. The second mechanism includes a hierarchical software resource template structure that specifies parameters, dependencies between parameters, features, options, and parameters that cannot be predefined. The template is consumed by user defined workflows to create actual software resources during deployment. A third mechanism is provided for desired state management and patch compliance assessments. The third mechanism checks against a server template or software resource in a data center model against what is installed on actual machines to determine compliance.
