Security Techniques For Cooperative File Distribution

View page
US Patent:
20080066182, Mar 13, 2008
Filed:
Sep 12, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/519990
Inventors:
Andrew Hickmott - New York NY, US
Laird A. Popkin - West Orange NJ, US
Yaar Schnitman - New York NY, US
International Classification:
H04L 9/32
US Classification:
726 26
Abstract:
Security techniques are provided for cooperative file distribution. An encryption key or a nonce (or both) are generated for a package containing one or more files that are to be sent in a cooperative file distribution system. Random access encryption techniques can be employed to encrypt a package containing one or more files to be sent in a cooperative file distribution system. One or more storage proxies are allocated to a package to be transmitted in a cooperative file distribution system, based on load. Access to trackers in the cooperative file distribution system is controlled using security tokens. Content can automatically expire using a defined expiration period when the content is uploaded into the system. Variable announce intervals allow the tracker to control how often the tracker will receive a message, such as an announcement or a heartbeat message, from peers in the system.

Methods And Apparatus For Cooperative File Distribution With Target Data Delivery Rate

US Patent:
20090070482, Mar 12, 2009
Filed:
Sep 6, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/850793
Inventors:
Andrew Hickmott - New York NY, US
Laird A. Popkin - West Orange NJ, US
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709233
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for cooperative file distribution with a target data delivery rate. A file is provided in a cooperative file distribution system by obtaining a target delivery rate for the at least one file; obtaining at least a portion of the file from one or mole unreliable data sources at an unreliable data delivery rate; and obtaining at least a portion of the file from one or more reliable data sources based on a throttle rate if the unreliable data delivery rate is below the target delivery rate. The one ox more unreliable data sources comprise one or more of a sender of the file and one or more peels. The one or more reliable data sources comprise one or more of one or more web servers and one or more storage proxies. The throttle rate can be adjusted to substantially maintain the target delivery rate. The target delivery rate can be dynamically determined based on one or more business rules.

Method And Apparatus For Cooperative File Distribution With Receiver Determined Quality Of Services

View page
US Patent:
20120317246, Dec 13, 2012
Filed:
Aug 20, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/590092
Inventors:
Andrew Hickmott - New York NY, US
Avi Cohen - Demarest NJ, US
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709219
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for cooperative file distribution with receiver determined quality of services. A receiver obtains a file by selecting a target rate for downloading a file, identifying one or more unreliable data sources and one or more reliable data sources wherein each source contains one or more portions of the file, obtaining at least a portion of the file from the one or more unreliable data sources at a first rate, determining a throttle rate for downloading at least another portion of the file from the one or more reliable data sources, retrieving the at least another portion of the file from the one or more reliable data sources at a second rate, and adjusting the throttle rate such that an amount of data obtained from the one or more reliable data sources is minimized, and the target rate is maintained.
