Socket Connector With Pivoting Operating Members

View page
US Patent:
6811421, Nov 2, 2004
Filed:
Jun 6, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/455921
Inventors:
Andrew Gattuso - Phoenix AZ
Hsiu-Yuan Hsu - Tu-chen, TW
Assignee:
Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., LTD - Taipei Hsien
International Classification:
H01R 1122
US Classification:
439266
Abstract:
A socket connector ( ) includes a base ( ), a cover ( ), two operating members ( ), a lid ( ), and four coil springs ( ) received between the lid and the base. The base defines passageways ( ) receiving terminals therein. Each operating member includes a first operating lever ( ) engaged with the cover, and a second operating lever ( ) engaged with the base. The lid is engaged with the operating members for pivotably moving the first and second operating levers thereby the operating members actuating the cover to move in a horizontal direction. When no external force is exerted on the lid, the terminals in the base permit zero insertion force insertion and removal of the leads of the CPU, and when the lid is vertically pushed down, the operating members actuate the cover to move relative to the base thereby connecting the terminals with leads of the CPU.

Test Connector With Leaf Springs

View page
US Patent:
6814602, Nov 9, 2004
Filed:
Jul 29, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/630581
Inventors:
Andrew Gattuso - Phoenix AZ
Sung-Pei Hou - Tu-Chen, TW
Assignee:
Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., Ltd. - Taipei Hsien
International Classification:
H01R 1362
US Classification:
439331
Abstract:
A test connector ( ) includes a connector body ( ) with terminals therein, a lid ( ), four guiding mechanisms ( ), and two pressing mechanisms ( ). The connector body comprises an outer housing ( ) and an inner housing ( ) for receiving an IC package ( ). Each pressing mechanism comprises a first shaft ( ) attached to the lid, a second shaft ( ) mounted to the outer housing, two operating levers ( ) engaged between the first and second shafts, and a leaf spring ( ) mounted to the first shaft. When the lid is in an upper position, the pressing mechanisms are in a first position in which the leaf springs are disengaged from the IC package, while when the lid is in a lower position, the pressing mechanisms are moved to a second position in which the leaf springs are engaged with the IC package thereby the IC package can be tested.

Ic Socket Having Urging Mechanism

View page
US Patent:
6827599, Dec 7, 2004
Filed:
Apr 6, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/819682
Inventors:
Andrew D. Gattuso - Phoenix AZ
Hsiu-Yuan Hsu - Tu-Chen, TW
Assignee:
Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., Ltd. - Taipei Hsien
International Classification:
H01R 450
US Classification:
439342
Abstract:
An socket ( ) includes a base ( ), a cover ( ) slidably mounted on the base, a lid ( ) attached to the base by plates ( A). The cover has guiding protrusions ( A) mated with guiding grooves ( A) of the plates, respectively. The guiding grooves each include first and second parts ( A, A) communicated smoothly with each other. A center line of the first part departs radially offsetly from a center point of the plate so that either of opposite sides of the first part can urge the guiding protrusion therein to make the cover move relative to the base between open and close positions. A center line of the second part has an arc shape whose center point is the center point. Thus, neither of opposite sides of the second part can actuate the guiding protrusion and the cover is kept immovable in the close position when the lid is over-urged.

Connector Assembly With Actuation System

US Patent:
6881088, Apr 19, 2005
Filed:
Jul 29, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/630591
Inventors:
Andrew Gattuso - Phoenix AZ, US
Sung Pei Hou - Tu-Chen, TW
Jung-Jang Chu - Tu-Chen, TW
Hsiu-Yuan Hsu - Tu-Chen, TW
Assignee:
Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., Ltd. - Taipei Hsien
International Classification:
H01R004/50
US Classification:
439342, 324755
Abstract:
A connector assembly () includes a test connector () for testing of an IC package (), an actuation system () mounted on the test connector, and a supporting member () engaged with the actuation system. The supporting member includes a frame () and a plurality of columns () for supporting the frame. The frame defines an opening () in a center thereof, a pair of opposite channels (), and two receiving holes (). The actuation system includes a pair of first cams () received in the corresponding channels of the frame, a pair of spindles () received in the corresponding receiving holes of the frame, an actuation lever () connected between the first cams, and a pair of second cams () integrally connected to the spindles. The actuation system can exert a continuous force on the test connector, thereby the testing of the IC package is effective.

Burn-In Socket Assembly

Filed:
Apr 16, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/826214
Inventors:
Andrew D Gattuso - Phoenix AZ, US
Sung-Pei Hou - Tu-chen, TW
Hsiu-Yuan Hsu - Tu-Chen, TW
Yao-Chi Huang - Tu-Chen, TW
Assignee:
Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., Ltd. - Taipei Hsien
International Classification:
G01R031/02
H01R011/22
US Classification:
324760, 324754, 324758, 439 70, 439264, 439331
Abstract:
A burn-in socket assembly () includes a base () receiving an IC and a number of contacts, a slider member () mounted onto the base and capable of moving along the base, a pair of actuation members () assembled onto the base, and a cover () assembled onto the actuation members and capable of moving up and down. The base forms a pair of receiving elements () on front and end sides respectively. Each receiving element includes a body portion (), a pair of spaced top portion () each having slits () extending therethrough and an aperture () extending therethrough. A sensor is received in the aperture to provide signals to a controller during being operated at high temperature. The controller can reliably control the temperature of the whole assembly in light of the signals from the sensor, thereby avoiding damage of the IC by exorbitant temperature.

Test Connector With Metallic Stiffener

View page
US Patent:
7021954, Apr 4, 2006
Filed:
Apr 16, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/826213
Inventors:
Andrew D. Gattuso - Phoenix AZ, US
Hsiu-Yuan Hsu - Tu-Chen, TW
Assignee:
Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., Ltd. - Taipei Hsien
International Classification:
H01R 4/50
US Classification:
439342, 439331
Abstract:
A test connector () includes a base (), a cover (), a metallic stiffener (), two operating members (), and a lid (). An opening () is defined in the stiffener for receiving the cover therein. Two spaced projections () are formed on one end of the stiffener. Two receiving grooves () are defined in bottoms of the projections respectively. Each operating member comprises a first operating lever () engaged with the receiving grooves via a first shaft (), and a second operating lever () engaged with the base. The lid is engaged with the operating members for pivotably moving the first and second operating levers so that the operating members actuate the stiffener and the cover to move. When the cover moves to make the terminals connect a CPU during applying an unduly force on the lid, the metallic stiffener can protect the plastic cover from damage.
