Sound Producing Game Bat

View page
US Patent:
51335514, Jul 28, 1992
Filed:
Jan 24, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/825213
Inventors:
John N. Handy - Long Beach CA
Ake L. Larsson - Palos Verdes Estates CA
Assignee:
Mattel, Inc. - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
A63B 5906
US Classification:
273 72R
Abstract:
A sound producing game bat includes a generally cylindrical slide tube having a center bore defined therein and a fluted outer surface. A generally cylindrical slide weight is received within the center bore of the slide tube and is captivated at the handle end by a resilient dampening plug. The hitting end of the game bat includes a sound producing unit having a sound unit housing within which a diaphragm and diaphragm cone are resiliently supported. During swings of the game bat by the batter, the slide weight travels through the center bore of the slide tube and strikes the diaphragm cone causing the diaphragm to vibrate and producing sound effects. A foam covering is molded upon the game bat to enclose virtually the entire bat in a secure attachment.

Hair Twining Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
45835616, Apr 22, 1986
Filed:
Oct 13, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/541812
Inventors:
Ake L. Larsson - Palos Verdes Estates CA
Assignee:
Mattel, Inc. - Hawthorne CA
International Classification:
A45D 100
US Classification:
132 9
Abstract:
A hair twining apparatus configured for one hand operation of a trigger, the apparatus having at least two hair clamp members carried by a sub-housing within a housing. With a switch in a first position, pumping of the trigger rotates the clamp members about the supporting shafts thereof for twisting groups of hair filaments attached to the clamp members. With the switch in a second position, pumping of the trigger causes intermittent unidirectional angular displacement of the hair clamp members to twine the strands by rotating the sub-housing.

Basketball Game Having Scoring Slap-Pads

View page
US Patent:
53009207, Apr 5, 1994
Filed:
Aug 17, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/930573
Inventors:
Rick Caselli - Cupertino CA
Pat Tura - San Francisco CA
Michael Cookson - San Francisco CA
Ake Larsson - Palos Verdes Estates CA
Assignee:
Mattel, Inc. - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
G08B 2300
US Classification:
340323R
Abstract:
A basketball game includes a generally planar backboard supporting a circular hoop having a basketball net extending downwardly therefrom. A center housing is supported beneath the hoop and secured to the backboard. A pair of score indicators having digital score indicating displays are supported on either side of the backboard. A pair of slap actuated depressible slap-pads are secured to and supported by the indicator housings. A flexible score sensor is secured to the center housing and extends into the net passage. The score sensor includes a flexible joint having a flex gauge or strain gauge operative therewith to provide an electrical signal each time the ball is successfully shot by a player and passes through the hoop and basketball net. In the preferred play pattern, the player having successfully scored a basket is able to increment the player's indicated score by slapping the appropriate one of the slap-pads following the successful shot. In the absence of a successful preceding shot, the slap-pads remain ineffective and operation thereof fails to alter the displayed player's score.
