US Patent:
6484837, Nov 26, 2002
Filed:
Jul 9, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/901485
Inventors:
Erik F. Buell - Mukwonago WI
Todd R. Wightman - Waukesha WI
Dane J. Hoechst - Elkhorn WI
Vance C. Strader - New Berlin WI
Donald S. Ferguson - Pell Lake WI
Abraham Askenazi - Burlington WI
Assignee:
Buell Motorcycle Company - East Troy WI
International Classification:
B62K 1102
US Classification:
180225, 280279
Abstract:
The present invention includes a motorcycle frame that has a steering head and a fuel storage unit that is adapted to contain motorcycle fuel. A separating wall is disposed between the fuel storage unit and the steering head to substantially prevent fluid communication between the fuel storage unit and the steering head. The steering head includes a stress focusing structure for separating the steering head from the fuel storage unit and leaving the separating wall substantially intact to contain fuel within the fuel storage unit in response to a predetermined force being applied to at least one of the steering assembly and the front wheel.

Motorcycle Front Brake Rotor Mounting

US Patent:
6561298, May 13, 2003
Filed:
Jul 9, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/901494
Inventors:
Erik F. Buell - Mukwonago WI
Julian A. Galgoczy - N. Kingstown RI
Abraham Askenazi - Burlington WI
Assignee:
Buell Motorcycle Company - East Troy WI
International Classification:
F16D 6512
US Classification:
180221, 188218 A
Abstract:
A motorcycle that includes a frame, a wheel mounted to the frame for rotation about an axis of rotation, a rotor mounted to the wheel, and a caliper selectively clamping the rotor to slow down the rotation of the wheel. The rotor includes a slot having flat sides that are non-parallel with respect to each other. The assembly further comprises a spacer positioned within the slot and having flat sides substantially parallel to said sides of the slot such that the flat sides of the spacer maintain contact with the flat sides of the slot during thermal expansion of the rotor. A spring is preferably provided between the rotor and the wheel and is offset from a fastener. The spring biases the rotor against the head of the fastener.

International Classification:
F16D 6512
US Classification:
180221, 188218 A, 188 723
Abstract:
The present invention provides a motorcycle that includes a frame, a wheel mounted to the frame for rotation with respect to the frame, a rotor mounted to the wheel, and a caliper selectively clamping the rotor to slow down the rotation of the wheel. A biasing member is provided between the rotor and the wheel and is offset from a fastener. The biasing member biases the rotor against the head of the fastener.

US Patent:
6773077, Aug 10, 2004
Filed:
Jul 10, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/902547
Inventors:
Erik F. Buell - Mukwonago WI
Vance C. Strader - New Berlin WI
Abraham Askenazi - Burlington WI
Julian A. Galgoczy - N. Kingstown RI
Assignee:
Buell Motorcycle Company - East Troy WI
International Classification:
B60B 106
US Classification:
301104, 301 69, 301 64101, 301 79, D12207
Abstract:
The present invention provides a motorcycle wheel that includes a rim, a hub, and a spoke. The rim is adapted to receive a motorcycle tire and the hub is adapted to receive and support a motorcycle axle. The spoke extends between the rim and the hub. The spoke includes first and second walls that are separated by a distance. The first and second walls are substantially entirely unconnected to each other between the hub and the rim. The spokes are all connected to the hub substantially centered about a central plane and connected to the rim on one side of the central plane.

Reduced Weight Rotor Having Structural Integrity

View page
US Patent:
20160233733, Aug 11, 2016
Filed:
Feb 10, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/618821
Inventors:
- Scotts Valley CA, US
Abraham Askenazi - San Jose CA, US
International Classification:
H02K 1/30
H02K 1/27
Abstract:
A reduced weight rotor design for use in an electric motor where the reduced weight rotor maintains its structural integrity. The reduced weight rotor includes a center hub, an outer ring having lobed portions extending inwardly towards the hub and located adjacent to each location of a magnetic pole pairing, and spokes connecting the hub to the outer ring where the spokes are arranged in a number of pairs equal to the total number of the magnetic pole pairings and wherein each spoke of a given pair does not cross each other spoke of the given pair but does cross a spoke of an adjacent pair thereby forming a one cross spoke pattern.

System And Method Of Using High Energy Battery Packs

View page
US Patent:
20140091751, Apr 3, 2014
Filed:
Oct 2, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/633419
Inventors:
Zero Motorcycles, Inc - , US
Nathan Glenn Knight - Santa Cruz CA, US
Andrew Martin Letton - Redwood Estates CA, US
Kenyon Michael Kluge - Santa Cruz CA, US
Abraham Askenazi - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Zero Motorcycles, Inc - Scotts Valley CA
International Classification:
H02J 7/00
US Classification:
320106, 320126
Abstract:
Energy storage system having one or more battery packs and a system controller for controlling the battery packs. Each battery pack has rechargeable storage cells and a battery pack controller in communication with the system controller. Through the operation of the system controller, battery packs with different initial charge states can be operated in parallel during the charge or discharge process. Discharging multiple battery packs in parallel offers not only higher capacity and longer run time than is available from a single battery pack, but also offers higher peak currents than available from a single battery pack, important in motor control applications. Battery pack design including a battery pack connector with both power and control contacts supporting user replacement of the battery packs.
