A system for connection failover using redirection includes a primary server comprising a primary connection failover driver (CFD), a shadow server comprising a shadow CFD, and a client. The primary and shadow servers and the client are coupled via a network. The primary server and the client are configured to cooperate to establish a network connection. The primary CFD is configured to redirect a first message packet, targeted for transmission to the client over the network connection, to the shadow server. The shadow CFD is configured to copy contents of the first message packet into a log, and forward the first message packet to the client after the contents have been copied.

A computer accessible medium may be encoded with instructions which, when executed: replicate a checkpoint segment from a first local storage of a first node to at least one other node; and load a copy of the checkpoint segment from the other node to a second local storage of a second node. The method includes capturing network traffic on the network during a period of time where the network traffic is captured as raw data into data blocks. The data blocks are streamed to a mass storage. The data blocks are organized into logical blocks on the mass storage. A set of data points are compiled. The data points are useful for defining information about the logical blocks. The data points include an offset defining a number of bytes into the captured data and datum headers including the number of frames into a logical block, number of bytes contained in the logical block and clock ticks since the initiation of capturing.
