Abstract:
Site-specific recombinase based methods for making a recombinant adenoviral genome, as well as kits for practicing the same and the recombinant adenovirus vectors produced thereby, are provided. In the subject methods, the subject genomes are prepared from donor and acceptor vectors that each include at least one site recombinase recognition site, where in certain preferred embodiments, one of the donor and acceptor vectors includes a single recombinase recognition site while the other includes two recombinase recognition sites. The acceptor vector includes an adenoviral genome having an E region deletion. The donor vector includes an insertion nucleic acid. In the subject methods, the donor and acceptor vectors are combined in the presence of a recombinase to produce an adenoviral genome that includes the insertion nucleic acid. The subject adenoviral genomes find use in a variety of applications, including as vectors for use in a variety of applications.

Gyroscopic Pointer And Method

View page
US Patent:
RE41520, Aug 17, 2010
Filed:
Oct 12, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/642250
Inventors:
Thomas J. Quinn - Los Gatos CA, US
Assignee:
Thomson Licensing - Boulogne, Billancourt
International Classification:
G09G 5/00
US Classification:
345156, 345157, 345158, 345166, 463 37
Abstract:
A vertical gyroscope is adapted for use as a pointing device for controlling the position of a cursor on the display of a computer. A motor at the core of the gyroscope is suspended by two pairs of orthogonal gimbals from a hand-held controller device and nominally oriented with its spin axis vertical by a pendulous device. Electro-optical shaft angle encoders sense the orientation of a hand-held controller device as it is manipulated by a user and the resulting electrical output is converted into a format usable by a computer to control the movement of a cursor on the screen of the computer display. For additional ease of use, the bottom of the controller is rounded so that the controller can be pointing while sitting on a surface. A third input is provided by providing a horizontal gyroscope within the pointing device. The third rotational signal can be used to either rotate a displayed object or to display or simulate a third dimension.

Inertial Sensor-Based Pointing Device With Removable Transceiver

View page
US Patent:
8217893, Jul 10, 2012
Filed:
Dec 9, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/922469
Inventors:
Thomas J. Quinn - Los Gatos CA, US
Lex M. Bayer - Palo Alto CA, US
Assignee:
Thomson Licensing - Boulogne

Micro Refinery System For Ethanol Production

View page
US Patent:
20090269834, Oct 29, 2009
Filed:
Apr 25, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/110158
Inventors:
Thomas J. Quinn - Los Gatos CA, US
International Classification:
C12M 1/36
US Classification:
4352862, 4352861, 4352865
Abstract:
The micro refinery first detects the weight of the sugar added to the fermentation tank and then calculates the water needed for fermentation. The feed stock is then inserted into the fermentation tank and the system adds the corresponding volume of water. The control system monitors the weight of the batch and maintains the temperature within a fermentation temperature range so the batch is converted into ethanol. In another mode of operation, discarded alcoholic beverages can be placed in the fermentation tank and processed by the micro refinery to extract the ethanol. The fermented liquid is heated and the ethanol vapors travel through a distillation tube to a membrane separation unit that separates water from the ethanol. The distillation tube has an alignment system that orients the distillation tube vertically automatically. The ethanol from the membrane separation unit is then stored in a storage container prior to use in a vehicle. The micro refinery can blend the ethanol with gasoline to produce any desire ratio of fuel.
