Filed:
Feb 4, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/503435
Inventors:
Joseph N. Norbeck - Riverside CA, US
Colin E. Hackett - Riverside CA, US
James E. Heumann - Newport Beach CA, US
Uy Q. Ngo - El Cajon CA, US
Nguyen T. Tran - Westminster CA, US
Bilge Yilmaz - Somerville MA, US
Assignee:
The Regents of the University of California - Oakland CA
International Classification:
C07C 27/00
C01B 31/18
C01B 3/24
C01B 3/32
US Classification:
518704, 518700, 518702, 518705, 518706, 4234182, 423650, 481271, 481275
Abstract:
A process and apparatus for producing a synthesis gas for use as a gaseous fuel or as feed into a Fischer-Tropsch reactor to produce a liquid fuel in a substantially self-sustaining process. A slurry of particles of carbonaceous material in water, and hydrogen from an internal source, are fed into a hydro-gasification reactor under conditions whereby methane rich producer gases are generated and fed into a steam pyrolytic reformer under conditions whereby synthesis gas comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide are generated. A portion of the hydrogen generated by the steam pyrolytic reformer is fed through a hydrogen purification filter into the hydro-gasification reactor, the hydrogen therefrom constituting the hydrogen from an internal source. The remaining synthesis gas generated by the steam pyrolytic reformer is either used as fuel for a gaseous fueled engine to produce electricity and/or process heat or is fed into a Fischer-Tropsch or similar reactor under conditions whereby a liquid fuel is produced.

US Patent:
20170184475, Jun 29, 2017
Filed:
Dec 22, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/388651
Inventors:
- Pewaukee WI, US
Otto Johansen - Yucaipa CA, US
Nguyen T. Tran - Redlands CA, US
International Classification:
G01N 1/24
Abstract:
A microbial gaseous-fluid sampler for collecting microbial particles from gaseous fluid includes a gaseous-fluid intake portion having a sample head with a plurality of holes. The gaseous-fluid intake portion further includes a collar configured to receive a Petri dish including agar. The plurality of holes define an exit plane that is positioned a distance from the agar within a range of 5.5 millimeters to 7.5 millimeters. The velocity of the air exiting the plurality to holes is within a range of 18.5 meters per second to 20.5 meters per second.
