The present invention provides a method for storing holographic data comprising providing a holographic storage medium comprising an optically transparent substrate including a photochemically active dye having at least two nitrone groups; and irradiating the optically transparent substrate with a holographic interference pattern, wherein the pattern has a first wavelength and an intensity both sufficient to convert, within a volume element of the substrate, at least some of the photochemically active dye into a photo-product, and producing within the irradiated volume element concentration variations of the photo-product corresponding to the holographic interference pattern, thereby producing a first optically readable datum corresponding to the volume element.

In preferred embodiments, the processor is programmed with software which stores multiple types of date (including display parameters measured during calibration and user-specified adjustment data indicative of differences between first and second sets of display control parameters) in separate data files; executes a locking operation which disables mechanical controls on the display device, periodically and automatically polls the status of the display, and automatically corrects any display parameter whose value differs from a desired value; displays two-dimensional controls with horizontal and vertical segments which a user can drag to vary display parameters such as brightness, contrast, and picture size or position; displays controls enabling a user conveniently to select either a maximum displayed intensity value of one primary color or a linear combination of two primary colors; and achieves excellent color matching between displayed and printed images by setting the display's white point to a proofing level (by directly controlling display circuitry) and prompting the user to perform color matching with the display at the selected proofing white point. The invention also includes the methods performed by the described system.

The present invention is a communication system having a plurality of forward channel communications and a plurality of corresponding reverse channel communications in a region for communications with cellular users. Each region includes a plurality of zone managers. Each zone manager includes a broadcaster having a broadcaster transmitter for broadcasting a plurality of forward channel communications using broadband broadcaster signals to form a plurality of broadcaster forward channels. Each zone manager includes an aggregator for processing reverse channel communications. Each zone manager communicates with a collector group for receiving reverse channel communications from users and forwarding reverse channel communications to the aggregator. Each of the users includes a user receiver for receiving a different forward channel from said broadcaster and includes user transmitter means for broadcasting user reverse channel communications in a different user reverse channel. The collector group for each zone manager is formed of macro-diverse collectors some of which are located at other zone managers.
