Bus Controller Operating Code In System Memory

View page
US Patent:
6505263, Jan 7, 2003
Filed:
Jan 25, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/491576
Inventors:
Mark A. Larson - Austin TX
Benjamen G. Tyner - Austin TX
Peter A. Woytovech - Austin TX
Assignee:
Dell U.S.A. L.P. - Round Rock TX
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
710100, 710107, 710305, 710 53, 711103, 711105, 711153
Abstract:
A computer system having bus controller operating code stored in a non operating system managed, extended portion of system memory. In one example, the operating code is executed by a bus controller for a computer bus conforming to the Universal Serial Bus (USB) specification. In one example, the bus controller operating code is stored in a portion of system memory that is located above the top system memory address reported to the operating system, thereby hiding the stored code from the operating system. In one example, the bus controller operating code is constructed during the startup of the computer system with a code construction routine. Storing bus controller operating code in a non operating system managed, extended portion of system memory provides a computer system greater flexibility in system memory usage.

Universal Serial Bus Pc Synchronization Algorithm For Peripheral Devices

View page
US Patent:
6587898, Jul 1, 2003
Filed:
Aug 10, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/636116
Inventors:
Mark A. Larson - Austin TX
Benjamen G. Tyner - Austin TX
Assignee:
Dell Products, L.P. - Round Rock TX
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
710 31, 710 33, 710 48, 712225, 709200
Abstract:
Provided is a method, a computer program product, and a computer system each of which features queuing data transfers between a data port and a system memory to minimize the latency between queuing a data transfer and effectuating the transfer of the same and to remove the chance of more than one device trying to talk to the OS at the same time through the same port. This facilitates backwards compatibility of non-USB compatible computer resources, such as applications, operating systems (O/S) and the like, with USB compatible peripheral devices.

Background Execution Of Universal Serial Bus Transactions

View page
US Patent:
6658515, Dec 2, 2003
Filed:
Jan 25, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/491177
Inventors:
Mark A. Larson - Austin TX
Benjamen G. Tyner - Austin TX
Assignee:
Dell USA, L.P. - Round Rock TX
International Classification:
G06F 1324
US Classification:
710260, 710266
Abstract:
A method, computer program product and computer system that features intermittently entering the system management mode of a processor to commence and terminate I/O activity between external devices and computer system resources. To that end, a system management interrupt handler is included that monitors bus transactions between a bus controller and an external device that is the subject of I/O activity. Upon sensing the completion of a bus transaction, the system management interrupt handler transmits a system management interrupt to the processor. In response thereto, the processor reads a buffer in the bus controller and provides the requisite resources with the I/O information contained therein.

Ping-Pong Auto-Zero Amplifier With Glitch Reduction

View page
US Patent:
7321260, Jan 22, 2008
Filed:
Mar 7, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/369384
Inventors:
Mark R. Larson - Maple Grove MN, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International, Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
H03F 1/02
US Classification:
330 9, 330 51
Abstract:
A ping-pong amplifier with reduced glitching is described. The ping-pong amplifier includes a nulling amplifier coupled to a switching network. The switching network is used to auto-zero a ping amplifier within a ping-pong amplifier. The nulling amplifier drives the output of a ping amplifier to a proper output voltage level during auto-zeroing of the ping amplifier. By being at a proper output voltage level, glitches associated with transitioning between a ping amplifier and a pong amplifier are reduced or eliminated.

System And Method For Accelerated Information Handling System Memory Testing

View page
US Patent:
7325176, Jan 29, 2008
Filed:
Feb 25, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/786254
Inventors:
Mark A. Larson - Round Rock TX, US
Lowell B. Dennis - Pflugerville TX, US
Assignee:
Dell Products L.P. - Round Rock TX
International Classification:
G11C 29/00
US Classification:
714718, 714 5, 714 42, 714720, 714723, 365201
Abstract:
Memory testing at system startup, such as boot POST, of an information handling system is accelerated by adjusting memory testing routines to use instructions that take advantage of optimizations made to information handling system and CPU architectures. For instance, memory test iterations in one Mbyte portions using 128-bit SIMD registers, 64-bit MMX registers, ADD and SUB instructions, the MOVNTDQ instruction, and relying on an initial setting of the gate A and protected mode result in a substantially accelerated memory test.

Steel-On-Steel And Compliant-On-Steel Calendered Magnetic Recording Media, And Methods Of Making

View page
US Patent:
20040072029, Apr 15, 2004
Filed:
Mar 20, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/393416
Inventors:
David Lowery - Roberts WI, US
Mark Larson - Maplewood MN, US
Stephen Ebner - Stillwater MN, US
Ryosuke Isobe - Superior CO, US
Guy Tadlock - Auburn AL, US
International Classification:
B05D005/12
US Classification:
428/6940BR, 427/127000
Abstract:
A method for producing a magnetic recording medium includes applying a non-magnetic back coat to a substrate, applying a magnetic front coat to the substrate, in-line calendering the coated substrate using opposed rolls, at least one of the rolls being a generally compliant roll, and off-line calendering the substrate using opposed, generally non-compliant rolls. The off-line calendering optionally includes steel-on-steel calendering and the method optionally includes only one off-line calendering pass and only one in-line calendering pass. Calendering the coated substrate optionally occurs using at least one nip, the calendering including calendering the coated substrate through a final nip including generally non-compliant rolls. Other methods, and magnetic recording media produced by such methods, also are disclosed.

Multi-Layer Magnetic Medium Having A Dense Magnetic Upper Layer

View page
US Patent:
20040253481, Dec 16, 2004
Filed:
Jun 12, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/459812
Inventors:
Mark Larson - Maplewood MN, US
Stephen Ebner - Stillwater MN, US
David Lowery - Roberts WI, US
Ryosuke Isobe - Superior CO, US
International Classification:
B32B019/00
US Classification:
428/693000, 428/6940BN
Abstract:
The magnetic recording medium includes a non-magnetic substrate having a front surface and a back surface. Coated on the front surface of the substrate is a lower support layer, or sub-layer, and at least one magnetic upper layer which together comprise the front coating. The magnetic upper layer contains a primary magnetic particulate pigment and a binder system therefor. The topmost magnetic upper layer is compressed, yielding a dense coating, with less than 14% porosity, and has a thickness of from about 0.02 micron to about 0.3 micron. The lower support layer comprises a nonmagnetic or soft magnetic pigment particle, and a binder system therefor. A back coating is formed on the back surface of the substrate. The magnetic medium of the invention has fewer than 400 tape dropouts per square inch at a 60% threshold, and fewer than 30 dropouts per square inch at a 40% threshold.
