Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for including a code having at least one code frequency component in an audio signal are provided. The abilities of various frequency components in the audio signal to mask the code frequency component to human hearing are evaluated and based on these evaluations an amplitude is assigned to the code frequency component. Methods and apparatus for detecting a code in an encoded audio signal are also provided. A code frequency component in the encoded audio signal is detected based on an expected code amplitude or on a noise amplitude within a range of audio frequencies including the frequency of the code component.

Abstract:
Symbol synchronization in a continuous phase modulation receiver is achieved by calculating an arctangent function of a digital sample of the output of a quadrature demodulator. This signal is sampled by integration techniques or filtered to produce signals that represent a complex value whose phase changes at a rate which is half of the symbol rate. The complex value may be squared and rotated by an angle which is related to the symbol phase. The integrated sample or an arctangent function of the filtered sample is used as a controlling input for a numerically controlled oscillator which regulates the digital sampling.

Abstract:
The compilation of a high-level software-based description of an algorithm into efficient digital hardware implementation(s) is addressed. This is done through the definition of new semantics for software constructs with respect to hardware implementations. This approach allows a designer to work at a high level of abstraction, while the semantic model can be used to infer the resulting hardware implementation. These semantics are interpreted through the use of a compilation tool that analyzes the software description to generate a control and data flow graph. This graph is then the intermediate format used for optimizations, transformations and annotations. The resulting graph is then translated to either a register transfer level or a netlist-level description of the hardware implementation.

A method and apparatus for obtaining measurements, on a spacecraft that employs a transceiver, at intervals that are shorter than the telemetry frame duration for use in correcting ground-based Doppler measurements so as to remove the effects of drift in the spacecraft oscillator frequency reference.
