Method And Apparatus For Analyzing A Media Path In A Packet Switched Network

View page
US Patent:
7729267, Jun 1, 2010
Filed:
Nov 26, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/723118
Inventors:
David R. Oran - Acton MA, US
Daniel G. Wing - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04J 1/16
US Classification:
370252, 3703952
Abstract:
No-op media payload packets are used to analyze a media path in a packet switched network. In one embodiment, the no-op packets are Real Time Protocol (RTP) payload packets that contain no media content. A Real Time Control Protocol (RTCP) report is generated for the received RTP no-op packets. A marker bit is set in one of the no-op packets that triggers the no-op packet receiver to send back the RTCP report. The media steam is transmitted when the statistics in the RTCP report indicate a viable media path.

US Patent:
20210360004, Nov 18, 2021
Filed:
Jun 28, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/360910
Inventors:
- San Jose CA, US
ANDREW ZAWADOWSKIY - Hollis NH, US
DONOVAN O'HARA - Acton MA, US
SARAVANAN RADHAKRISHNAN - Bangalore, IN
TOMAS PEVNY - Modrany, CZ
DANIEL G. WING - Truckee CA, US
International Classification:
H04L 29/06
Abstract:
A method comprises receiving, at a network infrastructure device, a flow of packets, determining, using the network infrastructure device and for a first subset of the packets, that the first subset corresponds to a first datagram and determining a first length of the first datagram, determining, using the network infrastructure device and for a second subset of the packets, that the second subset corresponds to a second datagram that was received after the first datagram, and determining a second length of the second datagram, determining, using the network infrastructure device, a duration value between a first arrival time of the first datagram and a second arrival time of the second datagram, sending, to a collector device that is separate from the network infrastructure device, the first length, the second length, and the duration value for analysis.
